Egypt and Greece Advance Maritime Collaboration with First Joint Committee MeetingShipping Arabia, May 31, 2024 — Egypt and Greece have taken a significant step forward in their maritime relations with the inaugural meeting of their joint maritime committee, held at the Maritime Transport Sector headquarters in Cairo. The session was co-chaired by Admiral Reda Ismail, Head of the Maritime Transport Sector of Egypt, and Mr. Evangelos Kyriazopoulos, Secretary General of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy from Greece. The meeting drew high-level representatives from major Greek ports including Volos, Thessaloniki, and Piraeus, alongside officials from the Hellenic Ports Authority, the Hellenic Coast Guard, and Greece’s permanent representation to the European Union. Key Egyptian participants included leaders from Alexandria and Damietta ports and the Deputy Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone Authority, with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport also in attendance.Discussions at the meeting underscored the deep, strategic maritime bonds between the two nations, spotlighting the robust memorandums signed in recent years aimed at enhancing collaboration in maritime transport and tourism. A significant focus was the ongoing initiative to establish a RoRo passenger and cargo line between Alexandria and Volos, intended to boost both trade and tourism. The committees deliberated on intensifying port cooperation, continuing their cooperative efforts within the International Maritime Organization, and fostering educational ties through the mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates and joint training initiatives.Additionally, strategies to promote the ports of both countries as prime destinations for yachts and cruise ships were explored. This includes mutual support at tourism forums and the enhancement of joint tourism ventures, leveraging the strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union initiated on March 17.The session culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the ports of Alexandria and Volos and the preliminary approval of a technical MoU on port cooperation and twinning between Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece, set to be finalized at the upcoming trilateral presidential summit in Cairo. The Greek Consul General and the heads of the committee from both sides acknowledged the productive outcomes of the meeting, expressing gratitude for the progress made and the plans laid down to further enhance the maritime connectivity and cooperation between Egypt and Greece.Source: Maritime Transport Sector - Egypt#Egypt #Greece #Maritime #Ferry #Volos #Alexandria #Transportation #Cooperation

Suez Canal Authority Discusses Enhanced Cooperation with Australian AmbassadorShipping Arabia, June 13, 2024 — Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, recently hosted Dr. Axel Wabenhorst, the Australian Ambassador to Cairo, at the Irshad Building in Ismailia to explore avenues for bolstering bilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest.During the meeting, Lieutenant General Rabie underscored the Suez Canal's pivotal role in global maritime trade, affirming the authority's commitment to its extensive development strategy aimed at sustaining the canal's status as a leading maritime passage. This strategy has effectively accommodated approximately 26,000 ship transits last year, with a focus on enhancing navigational services and the overall safety of the waterway. The Chairman highlighted the Suez Canal's efficiency as the most rapid and direct route for voyages between Asia and Europe, offering significant time savings compared to alternative routes like the Cape of Good Hope. He addressed the challenges faced by the alternative routes, including their lack of essential services and the prevalent adverse weather conditions that pose risks to maritime safety. In addition, Lieutenant General Rabie detailed initiatives to promote yacht tourism within the region, including the development of the Authority's yacht marinas in Port Said, Ismailia, and Port Tewfik. He specifically noted the recent upgrades at the Ismailia Yacht Marina, which now features the capacity to service 100 yachts, positioning it as a premier facility in the region.Dr. Axel Wabenhorst, the Australian Ambassador, emphasized the strategic global significance of the Suez Canal, especially considering the recent geopolitical tensions in the Bab al-Mandab area that have impacted maritime routes and escalated transportation costs and delays for trade between Asia and Europe. The meeting concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts and a cultural visit, where the Ambassador toured the Suez Canal Museum and enjoyed a boat tour of the New Suez Canal, further enriching the diplomatic and cooperative ties between Australia and Egypt. This encounter marks a continued commitment to strengthening partnerships that support the strategic interests of both nations in maritime commerce and navigation.Source: Suez Canal Authority#SuezCanal #Egypt #Maritime #Australia #GlobalTrade

It’s been already 5 years since the regular LOT Polish Airlines flight between #Warsaw - #Miami had started. There were many attempts, starting back in 2014 -15, that finally resulted on this important connectivity. Direct flights are important more than just for comfort, they help to build a bridge between regions increasing trade, business relations, exchange of ideas and funnel possibility for more integration. As of now it’s easier to hear polish on the street, not of those weekly tourists, but residence that choose Miami over Warsaw in the winter time when Miami is boosting with activities like #artbasel #miamiboatshow #miamifashionweek, and many more. One of the highlights of the season is the already legendary Polonaises ball organize by the American 🇺🇸 Institute of Polish 🇵🇱 Culture Inc. The founder of the institute, Blanka Rosenstiel, had been for decades working on Polish presence in Miami, which is now happening on our eyes with events such as Kongres 60 Milionów - 60 Million Congress that works together with the institute to build a focal point to integrate the Polish American community together. Congratulations for the teams of #LOT and Miami International Airport on continues work to support this.We also have the PortMiami Port of Gdansk Authority MoU signed for sister ports, which we need to work a little bit more to make a direct cargo sailing between the two regions. When I started in economic development Poland wasn’t even on the list of 50 trade partners with state of #Florida, now we are breaking into top 30.
